Jarryd played his junior baseball with the East Hills Baseball Club before moving to the Canterbury Bankstown Vikings Baseball Club in 2006/7. Whilst making his 1st grade debut during that year it was in the 2008/9 season that he became a permanent member of that team.
As an under 18 player Jarryd twice earned representative honours in being selected in the NSW Under-18 State teams.
He was selected in 2008 to the Australian Under-19 team that competed in the World Championships in Edmonton, Canada. The team finished 4th in that competition.
On 21 July 2009 Jarryd was signed by the The Pittsburgh Pirates.
