First Grade match report – Round 4 Game 1 – Vikings vs Baulkham Hills.

Vikings Win 4-2

The Vikings won 4-2 in a great game against Baulkham Hills on Sunday. It was a great team effort for the Vikings to pick up the win in a close game.

Once again our pitching staff kept us in the game, Tim Stanford threw 3ip 3h 2k 2bb 1er to get us off to a great start then Josh Wells made his best outing of the season so far 2ip 1h 0bb 0er a great outing from Josh, Gavin D’Loughy threw a solid 2ip 0h 1k 0bb 0er and Michael McClellan shut down Baulko to end the game 2ip 2h 1k 1bb 0er. Corey Barnes and Shane O’Connor made some outstanding defensive plays to help out the pitching staff, Corey’s 9th inning diving catch was the best catch of the season so far.

The Vikings hit well considering they faced some good pitching in former MLB pitcher and current Sydney Blue Sox closer Koo Dae Sung, they managed to score 3 of the 4 runs while Koo was on the mound. Trent D’Antonio continued his great start to the season 2-4 2rbi, Mark Holland 2-4 1rbi 1sb, Joel Southam 1-2 1bb 1hbp 1r, Corey Barns 1-4 2r 1bb 1sb, Rowan Nicol 1-4 1sb, Alex Rogers 1-4 and Guy Edmonds 1-4

First grade match report round 3 Vikings Vs Ryde

Vikings go down to Ryde 6-4

In a disappointing game the Vikings made some costly errors and took the loss against Ryde on Wednesday Night.

Round 3 Vs Ryde

The Vikings had the lead going into the last innings but were unable to close the game out and Ryde scored 3 runs to win the game. Rohan Nicol had a great game with the bat going 2-3 and scoring twice. All the pitchers threw well again but there was some poor defence behind them, Ryde scored 6 runs but only 1 was earned.

The weekend game was rained out.

1st Grade Match Report Vs Penrith – Game 2

Vikings win game 2 Vs Penrith 3-2
The Vikings are off to a perfect start to the year with their second win of the season over Penrith on Wednesday night.
It was a close game right to the final out when Brendan Kingman was brought to the mound for the Vikings, Penrith had the tying run at second and the winning run at first but it only took two pitches from Kingman to pick up his first save of the season and give the Vikings their second win.
Josh Wells took to the mound first for the Vikings making a fiery start to say the least, the big unit was in good form throwing 2IP 1H 4K for 1ER. Next up was Tim Stanford who threw the bulk of the innings for the Vikings 3 2/3IP 4H 3K for 0ER a great pitching performance from Tim who picked up the Win. Michael McLellan was then brought and threw well in his first start back 2IP 1H 2K 1ER Brendan Kingman had the tough ask of closing the game but he did it with ease 1/3ip 0H 0K 0ER Another great pitching performance from the Vikings pitchers. The pitchers did have some help behind them with Robert Reeves making his return to the Vikings line up after a season off and he made a spectacular catch in centre field to shut down the Penrith rally.
It was a fairly quiet night with the bats for the Vikings who only recorded 4 Hits but it was enough to score 3 runs and get the win. Trent D’Antonio played his first game of the season and was in fine form going 1-2 2R 2BB, Joel Southam continued his good start to the year with the bat going 2-4 1RBI Mark Holland 0-2 1RB1 1SF 1BB Alex Rogers 0-1 2BB Robert Reeves 0-2 1BB 1R Brendan Kingman 1-4

1st Grade Match Report vs Penrith – Game 1

VIKINGS WIN SEASON OPENER 7-3

The Vikings kicked off the 2011/12 season with a 7-3 win over Penrith

Joel Southam was up first for the Vikings and worked a leadoff walk, he then advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored from second on a single from Mark Holland to put the Vikings up 1-0 in the first. From there the Vikings batted well all day scoring a total of 7 runs off 8 hits and an impressive 11 walks. Gavin Dloughy started for the Vikings on the mound throwing a perfect 2 innings, Tim Stanford was next throwing 2 innings and Alex Rogers did a great job going 5 innings to keep the Vikings in the game and he also picked up the Win. All the pitchers threw very well and didn’t allow any walks.

Batting – Southam 2-4 (triple) 2BB, 3R, 1RBI. Holland 3-5 (2 doubles) 1BB, 1R, 2RBI. Kingman 1-5, 1BB, 1R, 1SB. Edmonds 1-5, 2RBI, 1HBP. Favorito 0-3, 2BB. Rogers 1-4, 1RBI. Nicol 0-5. Lehmann 0-2, 3BB. Howie 0-1, 1BB, 1HBP
